Varnish on the car body or scratch-proof coatings on exterior and interior components, anti-corrosion coatings on tanks or metal springs, deburring of plastic parts, screen printing on glass panes, conformal coating in control units, adhesives on trim panels or rear spoilers, labelling on a wide variety of substrates and much more.
Coating materials such as adhesives, enamels and paints are applied and then dried in many places in a car.
Depending on the process and the coating, you need a heat solution, a UV solution or a combination of both technologies.
Drying and curing of coatings in the automotive industry
Drying and Curing with UV technology
UV radiation efficiently cures coatings such as paints, inks and adhesives within seconds. This allows prompt further processing of the product. In addition, UV-cured surfaces are long-life and resistant to abrasion and scratching.
Application examples:
- IMD hardcoats (in-mould decoration)
- Conformal coatings on control units
- Labelling on cables, hoses and components
- Reflector housings
- Headlamp lenses
- Under-hood components
- Interior coatings
- Light-alloy rims
- Body side mouldings
Drying and Curing with Infrared Heat
Infrared emitters are adjusted to the product and the process, and not the other way round. They emit energy precisely at the wavelength that is best absorbed by and converted into heat within the respective material. They can be precisely shaped to follow the contours of the product where just very small areas are to be heated. They transfer heat radiation without contact, with high power and within seconds.
Application examples:
- Coatings on metal wheel rims
- Paint on petrol tanks
- Airbag fabrics prior to coating
- Paint on bumpers
- Powder coating on components
- Stone chip protection coating
